The theme of World Health Day 2009 is "Save Lives; Make Hospitals Safe in Emergencies".It focuses on the safety of health facilities and the readiness of health workers who treat those affected. They are cornerstones for health care in communities - meeting everyday needs. This year, WHO and international partners are underscoring the importance of health infrastructure that can serve people. They are also urging health facilities to implement systems to respond to internal emergencies such as fires, and ensure the continuity of care. At United Hospital, we firmly believe in safety of our patients as well as all categories of people engaged in patient care and those working in this institution in various other capacities.

In line of the World Health Day 2009 theme, United Hospital organized a weeklong workshop on fire fighting recently to raise awareness and training to deal with disasters like fire among doctors, nurses and all other category of staff of United Hospital for the protection of patients life and equipments & property of hospital in case of fire.

Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil defense and United Hospital jointly arranged a fire fighting demonstration on ways to deal with fire and the evacuation of people from different places if required on 4th & 6th April, 2009. Fire Brigade and hospital's own fire fighting equipments were used to train the United hospital staff members.
