World Nurses Day 2012 Celebrated by United Hospital

12th May is celebrated as International Nurses Day worldwide. This is in remembrance of Florence Nightingale, who was the pioneer of modern nursing service and the International Nurses Day is celebrated on her birthday. This year nurse’s day theme was “Closing the Gap: >From Evidence to Action”.

 United Hospital organised a day long programme to celebrate the International Nurses Day. The program started with a colourful rally early in the morning that started from the three approach roads to Gulshan Circle 2 and winded its way along the northern portion of the Gulshan Avenue culminating in the hospital. Over 200 nurses, doctors, nursing students of United College of Nursing and staff from other allied department participated in the rally. After the rally the birthday of Florence Nightingale was observed by “cutting a big cake” by the nursing staff. The nurses also wished the patients of the hospital and renewed their commitment to continue to severe the patients to the best of their ability and skill and with utmost care.

The nurses organised a Cultural Programme in the afternoon where dignitaries from Nursing Council, different hospitals and nursing colleges/ institutions and Embassy attended.  On this occasion keeping in with UHL tradition the Managing Director recognised the contributions made by nurses and gave special incentives to deserving nurses from different departments. He also emphasized that training programme that the hospital provides for its nurses will continue and that all efforts will be focused to improve the skills of its nurses. He appreciated the good service that the nurses are continuously providing and helping United Hospital earn a good reputation for its services.

Following the speeches the Nursing Department presented a colourful cultural programme of dances, songs and music where staff from different departments, including the nursing department, participated. The cultural programme continued till late in the evening. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Some Special moments of day long programme are as follows:-
