United Hospital installed the first Digital Mammography with Stereotactic Biopsy in Bangladesh. This is a new technology to improve the detection of breast cancer in the earliest stages. Its advantages include:
- Reduces the need for additional images due to overexposure or underexposure, which saves times and reduces exposure to radiation.
- Images can be more easily adjusted to improve the contrast of normal and abnormal tissues, magnifies for closer inspection.
- Mammographic images of the breast are taken from two different angles to help the doctor pinpoint the location, before biopsy.
A stereotactic vaccum-assisted core biopsy is a less invasive alternative to surgical biopsy that can be taken accurately in same sitting.
We are pleased to announce that United Hospital has successfully started performing the Stereotactic Biopsy and the first case of highly suspicious right breast lesion was done on 10th July 2012.
