Internal Medicine or General Medicine (in Commonwealth nations) is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. Internists are especially skilled in the management of patients with undifferentiated or multi-system diseases. Internists care for hospitalized and ambulatory patients and may play a major role in teaching and research.
Because Internal Medicine patients are often seriously ill or require complex investigations, internists do much of their work in hospitals. Internists often have subspecialty interests in diseases affecting particular organs or organ systems.
The Internal Medicine department at United Hospital is generally the starting point of any ailing patient before proceeding to subspecialty. Hence our mission is to provide the best ethical care to a patient by baseline workshop after doing thorough physical examination, whose no alternative is known so far. To render these facilities, a dedicated team of consultants experienced in their respective fields at home and abroad, assisted by highly qualified specialists, hard working senior house officers and well trained nurses are available.
Our programs in the department are designed to be responsive to the ever-changing healthcare environment. We pride ourselves in delivering high quality, cost effective and evidence based ethical care with a patient-centered multidisciplinary approach.
