He passed MBBS in 1993 from Dhaka Medical College. He did his MD in Paediatrics in 2005 and FCPS in Paediatrics in 2008. He did fellowship in Pediatric Respiratory Medicine and PICU at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, United Kingdom in 2010; performed Pediatric Bronchoscopy (Flexible and Rigid) and worked at PICU at Meyer University Hospital for Children in Florence Italy and at Careggi University Hospital, Florence Italy in 2009. He is fully accredited in the specialty and able to see patients with all aspects of Paediatric respiratory disease. His particular interests including severe lung disease e.g pneumonia, allergy, ILD, rare and congenital lung diseases, lung disease in children with multi-system disorders, cystic fibrosis, and asthma/preschool wheeze.  He worked as Assistant Professor of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, Department of Paediatrics at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Dhaka from 2005 to 2012. Thereafter he has been Associate Professor in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, Department of Paediatrics at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Dhaka since 2012, serving till date.

Dr Atiar has published more than 30 peer reviewed research papers in International journal in the last decade, mostly in the fields of asthma, pneumonia, lung abscess, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis and pre-school wheeze. He participates as invited speaker in many national and international conferences and conducts courses; so far he has delivered 31 presentations, 20 of which are in international forum. He is also reviewer of international journals of relevant field. In addition, he is currently a member of the European Respiratory Society, and Life member of Bangladesh Pediatric Association and Bangladesh Pediatric Pulmonology Forum. Before joining United Hospital as a Fixed Time Consultant he used to practice as a Fixed time Consultant in Apollo Hospitals Dhaka in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine from 2015 to 2019.
